From The Villager: Board Endorses Skate Park
Mayor Burrell opened the Village Board meeting with the good news; the county had paid the grant for refurbishing the baseball field. Niles Pierson had simply gone to the county office and had returned with the $49,000 check in his hand. Northrup Construction will finish up the work in the spring. Brenda and Chris Perks were at the Village Board meeting on Monday to discuss the skateboard park they would like to see created in Ellicottville. Trevor Staples accompanied them from the Tony Hawk Foundation, a group that supplies grants and helps communities install skateboard parks throughout the country. Mr. Staples said his group has matching grants available for up to $250,000 and said most concrete skateparks cost $5,000 per square foot to build. He went on to say the Ralph Wilson Foundation also supplies grants for public parks. Mrs. Perks said she would like to use public land for the facility as that would make the project qualify for most grants. Staples acknowledged the park would need to be free and open to all.
